Accomplishments
Queen Isabella had many accomplishments including creating the Spanish Inquisition. The Inquisition was made under the impression that the Muslims and Jews who had converted to Catholicism were secretly practicing their original religion. In the Inquisition people who were secretly practicing other religions were either tortured or mutilated as a punishment. This act scared others into accepting Catholicism and leaving their true religion they believed in before being forced to convert. The Spanish Inquisition made sure that Spain stayed a “purified” and all catholic country.
Besides the Spanish Inquisition Isabella also helped Spain by financing Christopher Columbus's voyage. She was the only one who would finance the voyage and that decision brought great things to Spain. When Columbus returned, what he had discovered brought new world and riches to the country. Queen Isabella’s support also gave Spain its first claims to America which led to the growth of the Spanish Empire in the west.
