What Was Going On?
Before Queen Isabella’s ruling the Muslims had most control over Spain and Portugal. They developed rich culture and built mosques and schools where Muslims, Christians, and Jews can all study together. However, most of the Christians didn’t follow Muslims rules and they struggled to take back the Iberian Peninsula. By the 1200s the Christians had three kingdoms Portugal, Castile, and Aragon on the Mediterranean coast. Over time the Muslims slowly lost power and all that remained of them was Granada in the south.
